AIGP vs SecAI+ vs AAISM: Choose by Role, Not by Rank
“Best AI certifications 2026” is the wrong question if it wants a podium. These three credentials do not share one. IAPP AIGP is AI governance, policy, and privacy, with no prerequisite. CompTIA SecAI+ is a practitioner exam for people who secure AI systems and use AI in security operations. ISACA AAISM (Advanced in AI Security Management) is a security-management bolt-on that requires an active CISM or CISSP. Different jobs, different issuers, different gates.

How to read the comparison
Match the credential to the work. A privacy lead standing up AI governance is not sitting the same exam as a SOC engineer wiring AI-assisted detection, and neither is a manager who already holds CISM or CISSP and needs an AI-specific management layer. AIGP term: two years from the day after you pass, 20 BoK-aligned credits, and a CMF (covered by membership; non-members get initial CMF in the exam fee and $250 at recertification). AAISM: five years from passing to apply, plus the application fee, ethics, and CPE policy. Eligibility after registration is six months; pay before scheduling.
AIGP: governance without a gate
IAPP positions AIGP as competency in responsible development, ethical deployment, and management of AI systems for safety and trust. There is no prerequisite. Privacy, legal, compliance, and product-governance people do not need a security cert to sit it.
Content lives in four BoK v2.1 domains, effective 2 February 2026. Domain II names the EU AI Act, the South Korean AI Basic Law, and federal and state AI laws applying to private-sector organizations, plus OECD, NIST AI RMF and Playbook, and ISO 22989 / 42001 / 42005. You are tested as a governor, including of generative and agentic applications — not as the engineer who trains the weights.
SecAI+: secure the system, then use AI in the SOC
CompTIA’s SecAI+ page describes the first certification in an expansion series: secure, govern, and integrate AI into cybersecurity operations. Published domain weights:

AAISM: management credential on top of CISM or CISSP
ISACA’s Advanced in AI Security Management is for people who already hold active CISM or CISSP. ISACA describes it as supplementing certified security managers to assess and mitigate enterprise AI risk, implement policy, and assure responsible use.
Official outline domains: AI Governance and Program Management (31%), AI Risk Management (31%), AI Technologies and Controls (38%) — management and control design, not an open-entry survey and not CompTIA’s 60-minute performance-based sitting.
Fees as of 28 August 2026: US$459 member / US$599 non-member, then US$50 to apply after you pass. Six-month eligibility; pay before scheduling; appointments as early as 48 hours after payment. India, Mainland China, and Hong Kong: test centers only.

“Best AI certifications 2026” means “best for this job”
If the job is policy, mapping the EU AI Act, running an AI governance committee, or briefing legal, AIGP is built for that work and does not require a prior security certification.
If the job is hardening model endpoints, defending training pipelines, or AI-assisted detection in operations, SecAI+ is the practitioner exam, with CompTIA’s recommended IT and cybersecurity experience.
If the job is already security leadership and the gap is AI-specific program management on top of CISM or CISSP, AAISM is the bolt-on. AIGP does not replace that prerequisite; AAISM is not an open-entry survey cert.
