AIGP Exam Cost in 2026: $649 Member, $799 Non-Member
As of 28 August 2026, the IAPP Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP) exam costs $649 for members and $799 for non-members on the IAPP store. That pair is the search answer. Membership, official training, the digital practice exam, certification maintenance, and retakes change the total. Figures below are from IAPP pages checked on that date, plus retake fees in the IAPP candidate handbook. IAPP does not publish an AIGP pass rate, and we will not invent one.
We build AIGP practice mapped to the current BoK. This practice bank is the modern practice system for every AI certification — not the exam vendor.
What the IAPP store charges for the exam itself
The AIGP exam product page is the source for first-attempt pricing. On 28 August 2026 it listed:
- IAPP member: $649
- Non-member: $799
The same listing describes the sitting: 100 questions, 2.75 hours allotted plus a 15-minute break, delivered at a Pearson VUE test center or via OnVUE remote. You must complete the exam within one year of purchase. Scheduling runs through Pearson VUE from the My Purchases area of a MyIAPP account.
That purchase is one attempt, used inside that year — not extra line items.
Membership is separate from the exam
IAPP Annual Professional Membership was $295 on the IAPP store on 28 August 2026. Membership is not required to sit AIGP. It changes the exam SKU and how the certification maintenance fee (CMF) is billed later.
If you already hold membership, the member exam is $150 lower than the non-member exam ($799 − $649). If you join in order to buy the member exam, year-one IAPP charges are:
$295 + $649 = $944
That is $145 more than the non-member exam alone ($944 − $799). Whether membership is worth it depends on the rest of membership and how you will pay CMF at recertification — not on a hidden exam-fee trick. We will not invent member discounts on training or the official practice exam; those were not shown on the non-member store listings we checked.
Certification maintenance: two years, 20 credits, and the CMF
The AIGP certification term is two years, beginning the day after you pass. To maintain it, IAPP requires two things: 20 continuing education credits that match the AIGP Body of Knowledge, and payment of a certification maintenance fee for the term.
On the exam store page, IAPP states:
- Members: the CMF is covered as part of membership.
- Non-members: the initial CMF is included in the exam fee; a $250 CMF is required upon recertification.
The non-member $799 is the first attempt plus the first-term CMF. Members pay $649 for the attempt and keep CMF coverage while membership stays active at the $295 annual rate. Membership is billed annually; we are not treating two years of dues as a required package.
Official extras: training and the digital practice exam
Two related IAPP store items were visible on 28 August 2026, both as non-member store prices:
- AIGP Online Training: $1,195
- AIGP Practice Exam Digital: $60
Neither is required to register. If you add them to a non-member exam purchase:
- Exam + official practice exam: $799 + $60 = $859
- Exam + official online training: $799 + $1,195 = $1,994
- Exam + training + official practice exam: $799 + $1,195 + $60 = $2,054
That last total is a stack, not an IAPP bundle. Skip any line you do not need. Map study to AIGP BoK v2.1 before buying a course written to an older outline.
Retakes: handbook prices, not the exam store page
The exam store page we fetched does not list a retake SKU. The IAPP candidate handbook does: first-time exam USD649 member / USD799 nonmember, and retakes USD475 member / USD625 nonmember. The same retake fee applies if you already hold another IAPP certification. Cite the handbook for those numbers, not the store listing.
The IAPP certification candidate handbook also says that after a failed attempt you buy a new exam once results appear in MyIAPP, and you may not schedule a retake sooner than seven days after the prior attempt. Each purchase must still be completed within one year.
Member sit-plus-retake exam fees: $649 + $475 = $1,124 (plus membership if you joined for the member price). Non-member: $799 + $625 = $1,424. Training is not in those sums.
Lean path versus member path (the arithmetic)
Using only the figures above:
- Lean non-member (exam only): $799. Initial CMF included. Still 20 BoK-aligned credits over the two-year term, and $250 if you recertify as a non-member.
- Join, then member exam: $295 + $649 = $944 year-one. CMF stays covered while membership remains active. Official training ($1,195) and the $60 practice exam remain extras at the non-member store prices we saw.
- Already a member, exam only: $649, which is $150 less than the non-member exam ($799 − $649).
These are shopping totals, not a pass-rate story. If AIGP is the governance credential you need, compare roles in AIGP vs SecAI+ vs AAISM.
How to put a number on your AIGP cost
- Open the IAPP AIGP exam store page and confirm the member and non-member prices on the day you buy. The $649 / $799 pair in this article is dated 28 August 2026.
- Decide membership on its own merits: $295 annual dues, member exam SKU, and CMF coverage while membership is active — not because membership is required to test.
- Add only the official extras you will use. Non-member store prices we saw: online training $1,195, digital practice exam $60.
- Purchase the exam and schedule through Pearson VUE (test center or OnVUE) so the sitting falls within one year of purchase.
- If you need a second attempt, use the handbook retake fees ($475 member / $625 non-member) and the seven-day wait, not a guess.
What we sell (only if you want practice)
After you know the IAPP invoice, the remaining study cost is yours to choose. Try 10 free questions from the bank (items AIGP-FREE-01 through AIGP-FREE-10). Paid checkout: Course + questions, $199. Founding: 20% off for the first 50 people. Code FOUNDING.
If you continue, practice questions are $79 and unlock AIGP + SecAI+ banks. Course + questions is $199, unlocks AIGP + SecAI+, and is the one we recommend. Everything is $349, the full kit for both. All-certs subscription is $29/month or $199/year and is what adds future catalogs. The $199 one-time does not add future certs. Those are practice products. They are not IAPP fees and they do not change the $649 / $799 exam prices.
FAQ
Is IAPP membership required to take the AIGP exam?
No. Non-members can sit at $799 (as of 28 August 2026). Membership is $295 per year and unlocks the $649 member exam price. It is not an eligibility gate.
What is included in the non-member AIGP exam fee?
The first attempt, plus — per IAPP — the initial CMF. A $250 CMF is due upon recertification. Complete the exam within one year of purchase.
How much does it cost to retake AIGP?
Per the IAPP candidate handbook: USD475 members / USD625 nonmembers, including if you already hold another IAPP certification. The store page we checked did not list those figures.
How long do I have to schedule the AIGP exam?
Complete it within one year of purchase (Pearson VUE test center or OnVUE). After a fail, buy the next attempt and wait seven days before a new appointment, per the candidate handbook.
Does IAPP publish an AIGP pass rate?
No. There is no IAPP-published AIGP pass rate on the pages used for this article, and we do not estimate one.
