How the AIGP exam is scored
You sit 100 multiple-choice items. Only 85 count. IAPP reports a scaled score from 100 to 500, and 300 is the pass mark. We do not guess a raw percentage.
Every item as if it counts
You cannot tell scored items from pretest items. Treat every question as if it counts. The scoring model is not a pass-rate story. IAPP does not publish a pass rate.
Sitting (IAPP store, 28 Aug 2026)
100 questions. 2.75 hours plus a 15-minute break. Pearson VUE or OnVUE. One attempt per purchase. Complete within one year.
Handbook (dated 10 Sep 2024)
The same 100-question exam as three hours including an optional 15-minute break, all multiple-choice, about 30% case studies, one best response and three plausible wrongs. Use the store for scheduling language. Use the handbook for how the score is built.
85 scored, 15 unscored
85 scored, 15 unscored. Unscored items do not count. You will not know which. Each item is one point. Unanswered is incorrect. There is no extra penalty for a wrong answer. The 15 are for future development.
Scaled 100–500, pass 300
Scaled score 100–500. Pass 300. The cut score is set by the exam board and psychometrics, then mapped to 300. 300 is not “60% of 500.” Do not publish a raw-correct target. If a blog says “aim for 60–65 of 85,” that is not an IAPP figure.
